The Carnation (Dianthus L.) is a genus of sea syodite in the family Caryophyllaceae.
The scientific name comes from the Ancient Greek "dianthos" and means "flower of God" (Zeus).
cultivation
The carnation requires sunny exposure, soil rich in organic and mineral substances, compact, calcareous and dry.
They multiply with sowing, by means of thing and by division of the assets.
The annual species are sown in spring or in a box in February, with flowering after 6 months.
Perennials grown industrially as well as by sowing, are multiplied by cuttings in the winter period, repairing them with frost mats, flowering begins in September-October until the following spring, in some regions such as Tuscany flowering is summer; while in areas with freezing winters the large-flowered varieties and rigid stem, are grown in pots in greenhouses; support systems for weak stems, with plastic nets, must always be provided to prevent them from breaking easily.
