Master high-yield planting techniques, and your pomegranates will grow big and delicious

Pomegranate has unique fruit shape, bright color, extremely high nutritional value, and good economic benefits from cultivation. However, pomegranate cultivation management in some places is too extensive, resulting in low yield, poor quality, and low efficiency. So how to ensure that pomegranate trees bloom more and bear more fruits?

  • Fertilizer and water management

The base fertilizer for pomegranate trees should be mainly organic fertilizer, supplemented by chemical fertilizer. It should be applied promptly after the fruits are harvested in autumn. It should be based on fully decomposed high-quality farmyard manure, and a small amount of nitrogen fertilizer can be added. Pomegranate trees need top dressing three times during the growth period, mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. Do not apply too much nitrogen fertilizer. The first top dressing should be during the budding and early stages of budding, the second top dressing is usually during the expansion stage of young fruits, and the third top dressing is during the fruit color change stage. The amount of fertilizer should be flexibly controlled according to the growth of the pomegranate tree. Combined with fertilization, watering is generally done once every 10-15 days. Pay attention to drainage during the rainy season.

  • Flower and fruit management

Scientific and reasonable flower and fruit management is the fundamental guarantee for high and stable yields of pomegranate trees year after year. Spray 0.2%-0.3% borax or amino acid foliar fertilizer 500-800 times during the flowering stage; spray 0.2%-0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution during the young fruit stage of the pomegranate tree. Remove diseased and insect-infested fruits, deformed fruits, pedunculated fruits and redundant small fruits in a timely manner. When the diameter of the fruit reaches about 6 cm, put it into a plastic bag in time. Insecticides and fungicides need to be sprayed before bagging.

  • Prune

In the early stages of fruit-bearing pomegranate trees, pruning methods of light pruning and long pruning should be used. All fruit-bearing branches should be left long, and branches that are too dense should be thinned out. This can alleviate the tree vigor to a certain extent and improve the fruit setting rate. After the pomegranate enters the fruit-bearing period, you only need to cut off dense branches, leggy branches, dead branches, diseases and insect pests, and weak branches. Winter pruning is mainly based on thinning branches, supplemented by short pruning, and thinning out leggy branches, overly dense branches, thin diseased branches, dead branches and crown sprouting tillers.

In conclusion

It is necessary to strengthen orchard management, closely combine the growth conditions of pomegranates, do a good job in flower and fruit management, continuously improve the fruit setting rate, and use fruit trees for bagging to improve the appearance and quality of pomegranates.
