Seed treatment
- Watermelon seed selection
The selection of seeds is based on two conditions, one is to be suitable for the local climate, and the other is to suit the requirements of the target sales market.
- sun drying seeds
Sun the seeds outdoors for 3 to 5 days before sowing to promote post-ripening.
- Soak the seeds in warm water
Put the seeds into warm water at 55 degrees and stir for 15 to 30 minutes, then cool naturally to about 30 degrees. Soak the seeds for about 10 hours. After soaking the seeds, wash the seeds repeatedly to remove the mucus on the seed coat.
- Disinfect with chemicals
First soak the seeds in warm water at 30 degrees for 2 to 3 hours, and then put in fungicides for disinfection. Commonly used fungicides include thiophanate methyl, sulfuric acid, ammonium salts, carbendazim, etc. Dilute 500 times (500 grams of water plus 1 gram of agent) and soak the seeds for 1 to 2 hours, then rinse the seeds with clean water and soak them.
- germination
Wrap the soaked seeds in gauze and place them in an environment of 28 to 30 degrees for germination. Wash once a day with warm water. Sowing can be done after the radicle is exposed. If you cannot sow immediately, store the germinated seeds at 15 degrees.
